On August 12th, Facing Forward held its annual Back to School Bash. This fun-filled event is dedicated to helping students and families in Facing Forward programs prepare for another year of school. Thanks to our community of supporters who donated, gave school supplies, provided backpacks, and volunteered, we served over 70 students at the event and prepared backpacks and supplies for delivery to over 300 additional students in our programs!
On the day of the event, students and their families joined us at the Salvation Army in Englewood to receive backpacks filled with school supplies, free books, and hygiene care packages. Attendees also enjoyed refreshments, a photo booth, and fun activities like face painting, board games, bag toss, basketball, and jump rope.
Our back-to-school efforts support our work to end the cycle of homelessness across generations in our community. Securing stable housing for families is our first priority. From then on, Facing Forward offers specialized services for both children and adults that help all members of the families we serve grow in agency and build stability. By providing resources through events like the Back to School Bash, and creating dedicated task forces like our Family Empowerment Team, we can ensure everyone has the tools and support needed to reach for their personal, academic, and professional goals.
This year, Facing Forward provided school supplies for nearly 400 students, more than ever before, thanks to our supporters and the help of our community partners Alpha Kappa Alpha, Yorkfield Presbyterian Church, Glencoe Union Church, and Open Books.
Thank you so much to our staff, volunteers, and the incredible supporters who made this event possible through your generosity! Facing Forward wishes all students another safe and happy school year!
