HUD Cuts Threaten Stable Housing – Take Action Today.
HUD-funded programs that benefit thousands of Chicagoans are at risk. Facing Forward currently provides stable housing and clinical case management to 631 individuals – including families with young children – and helps thousands more navigate the city’s housing wait list. We know that delays and cuts to federal funds for programs that end homelessness are coming, and the stability we help families build every day is in jeopardy.
Many of you have asked how you can help. After assessing our current needs and the anticipated challenges ahead, we are launching the Stable Housing Fund to keep families in our programs housed.
The Reality We’re Facing:
-
- It costs roughly $1,500 per month to keep a family housed.
- We provide around 200 units of housing throughout Chicago.
- If the expected three month funding delay comes to pass, we are facing a $900,000 gap to keep families housed.
These cuts and delays stand to push families back into homelessness, strain already overburdened support systems, and make it even harder for low-income Chicagoans to secure a safe place to live. At the same time, families are bracing for reductions to other essential resources like Medicaid, SNAP benefits, and free school meals. With so much uncertainty, housing must remain the foundation families can count on. Now is the time to stand together and ensure families stay housed.
How You Can Help:
-
- Make a direct gift: Can you sponsor a family? Two? $4,500 can keep a family house through the expected three month delay.
- Host a fundraising gathering: Bring together friends, family and colleagues by providing a space and light refreshments. We can supply informational materials and are happy to attend and speak at your event.
- Engage your workplace: Matching gifts or corporate contributions can make a huge impact.
